The Third Level

If you were to go back in time what would you do? If you went back to Grand Central Station in 1894, what do you think you would see? The Third Level is a story that is based on the now a day Grand Central Station and the old one. The story is a romance full of time travel adventure, and it’s not a romance that your thinking of so don’t leave yet.

“The Third Level” is definitely a romance. In the beginning of the story there was a mild conflict because Charley (the main character) couldn’t find where he was going throughout Grand Central Station and wound up going to the 1894 Grand Central Station, then there was another conflict going on because Charley tried to tell his friend Sam and his psychiatrist that he went back in time to the 1894 Grand Central Station. But at the end of the story Charley backed up what he was saying and sent his friend Sam a letter from 1894 and it proved that Charley was telling the truth.

“The Third Level” relates to real life, well most of it at least. The story was based in Grand Central Station and the Grand Central Station is actually a Subway station in real life. A way the story is not realistic is because in real life you can not go through the Grand Central Station and go back in time like Charley did in the story. “The Third Level” kind of had a social commentary because Charley was trying to persuade Sam and Charley’s psychiatrist that he went back in time and they didn’t believe him. That’s what I think a social commentary is.

I think the purpose of this story was trying to say that to not always doubt because it might be true. The reason that is so is because, when Charley went back to the 1894 he sent his friend Sam a letter, the letter said “ Year: 1894”, and Sam believed him, so Charley proved him wrong

I thought the story was okay, I probably wouldn’t recommend it to any of my friends unless you like time travel stuff like I said before. Overall the story was kind of bad in my opinion.

Touching Spirit Bear Essay

Imagine living on a Alaskan island with nobody around to help you, or even know you exist, not only that but that your drunk parents could care less where you are. Well in this story that is exactly what happen to a kid named Cole. Touching Spirit Bear is an action-filled comedy that has a meaningful point.
A symbol that is in Touching Spirit Bear is, the cake ingredients. This may sound unimportant but this play a big role in this story, the reason this plays such a big role is because when Garvey handed Cole these cake ingredients Garvey to him to drink it all mixed together, and he did. Cole then said, “This is Gross!” Garvey then handed Cole a piece of cake that he baked with those ingredients, Garvey asked, “How does it taste?”, Cole said, “Pretty good.” As Garvey left Cole never knew what Garvey was trying to say, but what Garvey’s point was that everything that is apart might not work but if everything is put together it works.
One of the main characters Garvey is a Tlingit Indian that was a very good parent figure to Cole. Garvey was a parole officer that had two lazy eyes and was apparently built like a bulldog. Garvey was so nice to Cole that Garvey didn’t even spazz out when Cole supposedly killed Garvey’s cat, and then Garvey was willing to bring Cole to a Circle Justice for healing. Cole still was mean to him after he was offered a second chance to Garvey and Garvey still didn’t lose his temper. Even though Cole was mean after all that Garvey still was nice to him and watching over him. So Garvey is a pretty nice guy and a good parent figure.
This story relates to real life. Touching Spirit Bear relates to real life because Cole is a typical hardcore bully kind of guy, and there is most likely at least one of them in every school. There is also probably some person that is getting bullied in every school like Cole did to Peter. Eventually a bully will give in and actually come to their senses that bullying isn’t that good to do to people, and that’s exactly what happen to Cole when he didn’t want to fight Peter.
In this story Cole pretty much learned his lesson not to bully and be nice to kids that are more unconfident than him. The purpose of this story is not to bully kids because there will always be consequences.

Up response

The mode of literature is a romance because the mild conflict in this movie was that Carl didn’t finish his promise. He had promised to his wife that he would bring their house by the huge waterfall and die peacefully at their house. After a mild conflict there comes a life symbolism. The life symbolism in this movie was that the old man (Carl) and the little boy (Russel) at the end lived happily ever after.

Carl totally changed his attitude around Russel when Russel told Carl that he never got to hang out with his dad. Carl then felt very bad for Russel because every boy needs like a dad influencing them, Carl decided to just hang out with Russel and make him feel better. Carl was then pretty much Russel’s dad influence.

A couple life symbols are that Carl’s wife passed away and he promised to her that he would bring their house on top of a waterfall. Another life symbol was when Carl and Russel lived happily ever after in they end. One more life symbolism was when Kevin (the huge bird) got to see her babies.

The Rocking Donkey essay

Imagine your father dead and having to live with your step-mother that is very wealthy and doesn’t spend any of her money on herself, or your family. In this story Esmeralda’s step-mother just spends all of her money on businesses and fundraisers or even donates their own stuff, and barely invests in their own family’s needs. Esmeralda’s wicked step-mother also donated Esmeralda’s only friend (a rocking horse) to a museum, would you have of said something about it? This story is a unrealistic romance that will fulfill your fantasy needs.

“The Rocking Donkey” is a definite romance because a romance is unrealistic. The unrealistic part in the story was that the rocking horse could fly and it could move it’s head, not only that it could talk too! The next thing to a romance is a mild conflict, the conflict is how the step-mother would never spend any money on their family’s needs. After the mild conflict there is a life symbolism, the life symbolism is when the rocking horse flew away with Esmeralda and then they were never seen again. Those were all the things to a romance.

Mrs. Mitching (Esmeralda’s step-mother) was a wannabe nice lady that donated, opened up businesses and many other things trying to make her seem like a nice lady figure in the outside world, but she wasn’t too nice in the family. Mrs. Mitching would always discriminate about what Esmeralda wore, but it was Mrs. Mitching’s fault because she would never buy Esmeralda clothes, plus she didn’t even give Esmeralda a school education when Mrs. Mitching has the money but is too greedy for what she wants to spend it on. On top of that Esmeralda had no friends only a rocking horse, and Esmeralda never had a toy until she got the rocking horse, and the rocking horse she got wasn’t even bought from her step-mom it was a guy named Lord Mauling that gave Esmeralda some coins and told her to go buy something with the coins, and she ended up buying a rocking horse (her first toy she ever owned). Overall Mrs. Mitching shouldn’t even raise a child.

The purpose of “The Rocking Donkey” is that if you have a child you need to take response ability for your child and grow up or your child might end up running away like Esmeralda did, probably not likely to happen only if you were to totally neglect them. The other purpose is to actually spend time with your child and give them a education so they can get somewhere in life.

This story just proves why you should hangout with your children to keep them happy because a kid needs someone to care for them, depending on their age they cannot survive by themselves.

Haiti project

In our Haiti video I think I and Jordan did and very good job! We accomplished to make Mrs.Reagles cry not only that but she said we did a good job and same with some other class mates =). In the project Jordan and I did I learned that I should be appreciative that none of that stuff that happened in Haiti never happen to me or my family... and also that I'm not in poverty like all the Haitians are in right now.
