"Whew, go Brewers!" I was just a young boy that day, back in 1970, when the Brewers made their game debut in the MLB, and I got to go to that game. That day was probably the most exciting day of my life, I had always loved baseball but never got the chance to see a professional baseball game for myself. I mean who wouldn't be excited to see their first baseball game, not only that but the Brewers game debut. I had always dreamed of catching a homerun ball for as long as I could remember.
I had always asked my dad, "Dad, do you think we could catch a homerun ball at this game."
He always replied, "We have to see when we get there, if we did that would be pretty cool."
"Heck yeah, that would be awesome! Dad you know how much that ball would be worth since it's the Brewers game debut."
"A lot a lot of money."
My mom asked, "You didn't forget your baseball mitt did you Stewart?"
I laughed, "How could I not remember my mitt, I've been dreaming of catching a homerun ball."
"Was just making sure, cause I know you would be pretty sad if you didn't bring it."
"Yeah, I would probably be going ballistic."
My mom and dad laughed because they probably knew I would be going crazy. About 20 minutes later of non-stop eagerness we arrived, at Country Stadium it was so amazing seeing a professional baseball park for the first time.
I said excitedly, "Yes we are here!"
My dad said, "get your mitt out of the trunk."
My mom then replied "No need to do that I got you mitt right here."
"Thanks mom."
I was still eager to get into the stadium. So as they were getting their stuff I just kept saying over and over, "Come on guys let's go before we miss the first pitch."
My dad replied, "Settle down, we got all of our stuff now."
"Finally, it felt like hours even though it was only one minute. Alright let's head inside then."
Once we gave the Usher our tickets he told us where our seats were and we darted off to them, we had out field tickets so we could maybe get a homerun ball. After we got some food and beverages we quickly got to our seats.
I squeezed through the row heading to our seats. As soon as I sat down I saw the baseball field it was so cool to see it. Then I saw Hank Aaron in the outfield.
I said to my dad, "Do you see Hank Aaron right there?"
"Yeah I do, hopefully he can hit a homerun today."
"Imagine, If we caught his homerun ball it would be probably worth almost up to a million in a couple of years, and go up more and more over the years."
Once the first pitch was thrown butterflies were going through my stomach, because Hank Aaron is next, the big homerun hitter. After our first hitter got a single base hit, Hank Aaron came up to base.
My dad said, "Get your mitt out now, Hank Aaron is up."
I got my mitt out getting ready for a homerun hit. Hank swung and missed the first pitch, I didn't give up hope because he needs 2 more strikes to strike out. The pitcher threw the next pitch, Hank hit the ball so hard it broke his bat. I saw the ball heading right towards me in the stands.
My mom and dad said, "Get it Stewart it's all you!"
I was so nervous thinking of how much this ball will be worth, if I didn't catch this some guy would probably pick it up when I missed the catch. It was all in slow motion, as the ball was coming down I put my glove out about to catch it. Then instantly it landed in my glove.
I was yelling at the top of my lungs, "Yes! I caught it, I caught it, a homerun ball from Hank Aaron!"
My parents were so happy for me, hugging me, saying "You know how much that is worth." and saying to "Never sell it until it is going to be worth probably millions of dollars." That whole game I was probably the happiest kid in the world. That day from there on out I've kept the ball, and you don't even want to know how much it is worth now.
